5 Naturally Minded Essentials for Postpartum Moms
The whole process of making a baby is such an incredible and joyous time. Granted, there can be bumps in the road like first trimester nausea and third trimester fatigue/hip pain/irritability/lack of sleep but for the most part, it really is such a special time.
What’s even more special is when you actually get to meet the little nugget you’ve been sharing your body with for the past nine months. No one can prepare you for the emotions you feel when you hear their first cry and see their face for the first time but it’s something you hear about, a lot.
But what about the aftermath of birth? Most new moms have heard that after the baby is born their body is going to need to heal for a few weeks but no one really talks about the after birth pains. I understand though, no mom really wants to relive those few weeks of feeling like their insides are hanging outside of them, the appearance of hemorrhoids (sometimes worse than the ones you may have experienced during pregnancy), the tears, and everything else that goes with it.
Birth is such a beautiful experience (which is hard to say coming from someone who had an awful first birth) in it’s whole. Even though I whole-heartedly believe we should focus on the beauty of it all, I also feel like it’s important to be prepared for the healing process of what the body — more specifically the vagina — has to go through after giving birth to a child.
Although there are many products you can choose from, I think it’s important to opt for products that are made with healing natural ingredients instead of ingredients you can’t pronounce or are known to be carcinogenic. Natural alternatives do work and below I’ve shared my favorite ones that I’ll be using during my postpartum healing period.
5 Naturally Minded Essentials for Postpartum Moms
Peri bottle: Peri bottles are for filling with warm water and squirting your vagina and perineal area after birth. You don’t realize how sore it gets down there until you actually push a baby out of your vagina so instead of wiping yourself, you use the bottle to cleanse that area. If you have two bathrooms you know you’ll be using, consider getting a couple so you’re not left with a peri bottle-less bathroom break. Find it here.
Earth Mama Angel Baby New Mama Bottom Spray: This is the same idea as the peri bottle only it is formulated with cooling cucumber, witch hazel, lavender essential oil, and peppermint essential oil. The added ingredients help comfort your swollen area and give it a little more healing power than simply using water. I think having both a peri bottle and the New Mama Bottom Spray is worth having since you could use the water to clean and then the spray to soothe. Find it here.
H-Hemorrhoid Healing Oil: I recently found out about this gem a month ago when I was desperate to find a natural cure for my painful hemorrhoid. I suffered from “worse than normal” hemorrhoids during my first birth so I was anxious about having to go through postpartum healing again. That is, until I discovered this oil. It helped me tremendously and I would absolutely recommend every mom to have a bottle of it on hand at all times. Find it here.
Earth Mama Angel Baby Mama Bottom Balm: Before my hemorrhoid got out of control recently, I applied some of this Mama Bottom Balm on it and felt a whole lot better. For postpartum healing, I found this balm comes in handy once things start to get a little less sore to the touch. It is incredibly soothing and I love that it has all kinds of healing herbs in it like St. John’s wort, calendula, and yarrow. Find it here.
Earth Mama Angel Baby Natural Stretch Oil: So, this one isn’t 100% necessary for postpartum but chances are, you’re probably already using it during your pregnancy to help reduce the chances of stretch marks. The reason I add this one on this list is because I think it’s helpful during those first few days before your milk comes in. With my first baby, I religiously applied lotion to my stomach but never once thought about my breasts. When my milk came in and my breasts became engorged, I experienced stretch marks all over them. I never thought my breasts would expand more than they did during pregnancy but milk makes them get even bigger. By having some natural stretch oil on hand, it’ll help reduce the chances of stretch marks when you get engorged for the first time. Find it here.
Sitz baths are also a great idea to help with the healing process, though I recommend filling the bathtub a little and laying in there versus sitting on a toilet. To assist in faster healing, you might want to pick up Earth Mama Angel Baby’s postpartum herbs; they’re in little pouches so you don’t have to worry about cleaning little pieces of herbs and flowers out of your tub.
If you’re more of a DIY person, you can buy the singular herbs (witch hazel, calendula, plantain, oatmeal, chamomile, sea salt, and lavender are all great — find my favorite organic herbs here) and put them in little muslin bags - just remember to tie them tight so they don’t come apart.

What wonderful products! I healed up pretty fast but man some of that would have made it much more pleasant I’m sure!
These look great! I’ve seen this brand before at my local natural foods co-op. I used an herbal mixture that my midwives mixed up for me to help with healing and also a balm like the one above. It’s so nice to have herbal remedies available to help with the healing process afterwards.
Aw. Great suggestions and beautiful baby! Such a special and sweet time!
Between co-workers and neighbors and friends I had three friends give birth THIS weekend! I will make sure to share this post with all of them! Great tips 🙂
I love this list! Thanks for sharing it. I am a big fan of Earth Mama Angel Baby products! They are so multi-faceted, have great ingredients, and smell sooo good!
