Money Bomb against Monsanto
Does the name Monsanto ring any bells to you? Monsanto is a U.S.-based multinational agricultural biotechnology corporation. They are the leading producers of 2 things- the herbicide called Roundup and genetically modified seeds. Monsanto sells 90% of the United States genetically modified seeds.
Roundup is an extremely toxic pesticide sold all over the world. Roundup is made to kill everything around it except for the food it’s spraying (when in all actuality it’s denaturing our food & causing root fungal disease). Roundup’s key ingredient is glyphosate. Glyphosate is dangerous because it is suspected of causing genetic damage, it’s residues can last over a year in soil and it’s residues have been found in strawberries, wild blueberries, raspberries, lettuce and carrots. It’s also very toxic to fish and birds and can kill any and all beneficial insects and soil organisms that maintain ecological balance.
Everything thing on this planet was meant to adapt and evolve to survive whatever conditions may be brought on them. We can all agree on that right? Since Roundup has been produced, there has been reported “superweeds” developing. The first superweeds were spotted in 2000 and now more than 10 resistant species of superweeds have infested over 22 states and millions of acres of farms. These superweeds are found mostly on corn, soybean and cotton fields. These superweeds are causing farmers to use more and more toxic herbicides and pesticides so their crops will succeed. The result? More labor intensive work for the farmers (plowing, hand picking weeds) which can bring up the costs of running the farm, lower yields, higher priced food and most importantly, more pollution of the land, water and our food!
In reality, the production of this hazardous herbicide is doing more damage than any normal person can justify. Monsanto’s answer to the problem? Create more genetically modified seeds that are more resistant to the herbicide. Great! Now the world can eat more freak of nature food that causes a wide range of health hazards, including kidney and liver damage, infertility, auto-immune disorders, allergies and autism, accelerated aging, and birth defects as stated by Ronnie Cummins with the Organic Consumers Association… . Just what we needed Monsanto.
Don’t you think it’s only right to know if the food we purchase contains a GMO? People in the supposed “land of the free” should not be tricked by the “all natural” labeling scheme and know what is actually in their food! Unfortunately with it’s loose labeling laws and Monsanto controlling the food industry, this isn’t so. The problem Monsanto would face is no one buying food labeled with an equivalent of a skull and crossbones indicating there are GMO’s present. I know I wouldn’t. Surely anything labeled with a picture of skull and crossbones means it’s hazardous to our health. If no one bought the food, farmer’s wouldn’t purchase the seeds OR roundup. You see where I’m going here… Monsanto would quickly go out of business.
As Dr. Mercola states…
“Monsanto, the Farm Bureau, the Grocery Manufacturers Association, along with corporate agribusiness, are all raising millions of dollars to spread their propaganda in an effort to defeat the California Ballot Initiative, just like they did a decade ago in Oregon. At that time, a cabal of corporate giants, including Monsanto and DuPont, calling themselves The Coalition Against the Costly Labeling Law, outspent the pro-labeling group 30-1, and successfully defeated the labeling initiative by scaring voters into believing that labeling genetically engineered foods was unnecessary and would raise food prices.”
The whole point of this blog is to make you aware of the new “Money Bomb against Monsanto.” Dr. Mercola’s article states that volunteers and staff from the California Right to Know Campaign are submitting nearly 1 million signed petitions from registered voters across the state of California to county officials, to place Right to Know Genetically Engineered Food Act on the Ballot for November 6.
Starting May 1, and extending through May 26, a broad coalition of farmers, health groups, and organic food manufacturers, will attempt to raise one million dollars (i.e. “The Money Bomb”). Donations can be made online, via regular snail mail, and over the phone. All donations will support state GMO-labeling campaigns and their defense from biotech bully lawsuits.
The Right to Know Genetically Engineered Food Act will require all food manufacturers to identify if there are genetically engineered ingredients on the labels of food in California. It will also not allow the mislabeling of GMO’s- you know, the infamous “all natural” label.
California has the 8th largest economy in the world so if this law passes it will have a huge effect on us as a nation. Over 40 countries have already passed this law so why can’t we??!
I know things are tough but if you can donate at least $10 like I did this morning, it is one step closer to protecting the health of ourselves, our families and the new generations to come! Obviously, if you are able to donate more, please do!
Let’s make this happen and pass this law because we have the right to know what’s in our food!!
Together we can make a difference and make a change!
Donate here to help fight Monsanto and it’s anti-labeling law!
Until next time,

Right on!
I hope the march on May 25th does some good.
