I Know You, You’re A Lot Like Me (Some Words on Balance)

I know you. You’re a lot like me.

You are a mother. You either stay at home, work from home or work outside the home. You are constantly searching for balance in your life.

Balance between quality time with the kids and house chores. Balance between getting work done and playing with your children. Balance between spending time with your husband, spending time with yourself and spending time with your pets. Balance between running errands, setting play dates, setting work times, setting relax times (wait, is there such a thing?).

I know you, you’re a lot like me.

You stay up late to get things done. You wake up early to get more done. Yet you struggle. Day in and day out. You struggle with the issue of balance in your life because you see, you are an all-or-nothing type of person. You are passionate. You have goals. You have ambitions. Whatever those may be; whether it be to grow your home business and make something for yourself or to be the best house wife or mother you can be. But you struggle, because balance doesn’t come easy to a person who is all-or-nothing.

I know you, you’re a lot like me.

You put a lot of time into one aspect and you don’t put a lot of time into another. One flourishes while one crumbles. You’re constantly at a tug-of-war with your emotions, your heart and your mind. You feel lost and overwhelmed. So, you seek ways to build up the crumbled aspect of your life. Everything is rolling along but then one day you notice the one aspect that was flourishing is now crumbling and the issues have traded spots. You become discouraged.

I know you, you’re a lot like me.

You desperately seek balance. You affirm to the universe or God or whatever greater divine force you believe in to bring to you balance, to bring you peace, to bring you hope that you can juggle everything.

You do the best you can. You learn, you conquer, you fail, you cry. You do it all over again. You are doing the best you can.

I know you, you’re a lot like me.

But what you may not know, is that you will conquer in the end. You will because you have the drive. You have the force. You have the burning desire for balance in your life. Yes, you may fail, over and over… and over again. But you will succeed, because look at you, you haven’t given up yet. That’s not your nature. You will find balance. Even if it is for a short period of time, you’ll find it. But the more periods of balance you experience in your life, the more you ignited you are to continue those periods of balance.

They’ll become longer, and longer because you’re a fighter. And you are amazing. And you are doing the best you can.

I know you, you’re a lot like me.

  1. Actually, I work 8 hours outside the house. It makes balancing everything and trying to find time for all the housework/cooking/exercise/family time when I finally get home very difficult. But I keep trying. Thanks for the encouraging post!
